Habitat for Humanity

A week in Malaysia with 12 High School students and Reina was nothing short of a great spring break vacation, all while building a house for Habitat for Humanity outside of Kuala Lumpur. Our first day there we were able to tour the Patronas Towers and Batu Caves where I was attacked by a monkey... that almost ripped off my dress as I walked the temple steps.

Waking up early all week, attempting to get h.s. students into a van every morning to drive to the build site, was nothing short of a miracle each and every time. We'd spend the morning moving bricks and mixing cement followed by an afternoon of laying bricks and putting up 3 sturdy walls and adding in a couple windows and doors.  We were able to finish the build a little early and went to a local elementary school to help paint: a fence, letters, numbers, a hop scotch board, and bunch of other things to help with.  The last day of our trip we took the kids to a paintball corse... little did a know being the teacher ensured the target was always on my back. In the end we had a great time seeing how much was accomplished at the end of the week, and how family the family of 7 was in their new home.
